Church Faces $4.2 Million Penalty in Sexual Abuse Case

A Florida jury has awarded $4.2 million in damages to Daniel Artis, who was sexually abused by a youth minister at Wayside Baptist Church. The court ruled that the church was negligent in hiring the minister, who had a history of molestation accusations. Artis, who was abused during his teenage years, sued the church for failing to conduct proper background checks. The church plans to appeal the decision. The youth minister, Keith Geren, is currently serving a prison sentence.
